EcoStandard is excited to announce that we are currently assessing the Novatop System from HWZ International SA (Pty) Ltd (HWZI). Once the assessment process is complete, the product will be awarded an official EcoProduct rating and certificate, which will clearly display the sustainability credentials for consumers wanting to use more sustainable building products.
EcoStandard is the first South African Ecolabel for products in the building and construction industry and aims to be the trusted certification body for the setting of environmental standards of excellence when rating a building product within our local building sector.

HWZ International SA
HWZI is a distributor of the Novatop System, which is a comprehensive and versatile building system based on large format components manufactured from cross-laminated solid wood. The system is suitable for family homes and apartment buildings, as well as for reconstructions, additions, extensions, etc. It enables partial deliveries of walls or roofs as well as a comprehensive solution for the whole building. The Novatop System meets the strict criteria for a range of international certifications, hence HWZI’s drive to ensure that the system is certified within the South African market, highlighting and endorsing the product’s environmental and sustainable standards.
Note: HWZI will be hosting the 4th Wood Conference on 11 February 2014 at the CTICC in Cape Town, which will focus on sustainability and its global process. For further information visit http://www.novatop-system.cz/en/4th-wood-conference/.
EcoStandard’s ecolabelling process ensures that the product undergoes a comprehensive assessment based on a Life-cycle Analysis (LCA) (cradle-to-grave) approach prior to awarding the EcoProduct star rating and Ecolabel, should the product meet required standards. HWZI is a forerunner in certifying their ‘green’ claims that their product is environmentally sustainable through this comprehensive LCA principle based assessment. The EcoProduct Ecolabel can be displayed on the product, enabling consumers to have a comprehensive understanding of the products environmental impact, assisting consumers in purchasing validated sustainable products.
In August 2013, EcoStandard awarded its first EcoProduct Ecolabel to Xanita. See the EcoProduct rating at http://www.ecostandard.co.za/wp/certified-products.
